Waldo E Gwilliams, Jr

July 5, 1941 - September 25, 2014

Waldo Emerson Gwilliams, Jr., age 73, of Marysville, died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at his home following a two-year battle with cancer. He retired from O.M. Scott and Sons after almost 29 in maintenance. Following retirement, he continued staying active, working part-time at St. Marys Cement Company. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis on the USS Canberra. He was a member of AmVets. He was a former member of Newton Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, watching old western movies, tinkering in the garage and was a NASCAR fan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandpa and brother. He was born July 5, 1941 in Gallipolis. He was predeceased by his father Waldo E. Gwilliams, Sr.; his oldest brother, Richard Bruce Gwilliams; and his sister-in-law, Dorothy Gwilliams. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol Sue Stithem Gwilliams, whom he married July 31, 1965 in Rushsylvania, Ohio; his mother, Beulah Songer Gwilliams of Marysville; four children, Tammy Norwood of Marysville, Pamela “Susie” Hampton of Columbus, Angela (David) King of Zanesville and Timothy Gwilliams of Marysville; grandchildren, John, Joseph, Patsy and Michael Jones, Zachariah (Stacy) Hampton, Andrew Bobo and Amanda King; eight great-grandchildren, Helena, John David III, Adysen, Gabriel, Darius, Jai, Jaylin, Destinee; four sisters, Joyce Peck, Nyla (Richard) Bowersmith, Judith (Doug) Barnes and Nancy Roosa; three brothers, William Gwilliams, Roger (Sandra) Gwilliams and David (Karen) Gwilliams; a sister-in-law, Wanda Gwilliams; a brother-in-law, Norman “Jim” Stithem; his mother-in-law, Cecil Stithem; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends, including his best friends, Bob Anderson and Ron Wright. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Underwood Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Warren Goble will officiate and burial will be at Raymond Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Union County Cancer Society. Condolences may be expressed to the family at
