Vera Luan Boerger
February 16, 2023
Vera Luan Guy Boerger, age 92, a life resident of Union County, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 16, 2023 in the emergency room at Memorial Hospital.
To Marysville, she was “Lou.” The matriarch of the Boerger family for 92 years, she was passionate, loving and driven – never missing a witty joke and always recognizing a familiar face. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Lou was loyal to her late husband, Robert, and supported him and every entrepreneurial achievement including driving milk and water trucks. Summers were filled with traveling across the country – “seeing the beauty of America with Robert J. Boerger” -always having a video camera in hand with all five children in the back of the station wagon. Their biggest excursion was to New York’s World Fair in 1964 among other family adventures through the years to Buckeye Lake.
Lou and Bob took great pride in maintaining their home’s appearance. Over the years, they were recognized for the summer color in their yard and the live nativity scene during the holidays which the City of Marysville recognized with awards for their creativity.
She served at Parkview Drive-Thru for more than 20 years where she loved working with her children and grandkids, meeting new faces and sharing laughs. She knew everyone and treated all as family.
A 1948 graduate of New Dover High School, she was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
A pioneer woman, she was tough and taught her legacy to be independent, grounded and cherish life special moments. Her five children, 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson will take comfort knowing her memory lives within their hearts.
Born July 20, 1930 to the late Fred and Lula Middlesworth Guy – a hard-working, farm girl at heart, she was one of seven children. As she grew, she loved getting up early helping her dad on their farm in New Dover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, Robert J. Boerger, whom she married November 25, 1951; her daughter, Barbara Hucle; her grandson Jarrod Boerger; her siblings, Genell, Genese, Winifred, Judith, Donna Jean and Bernard; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Francis Boerger.
She is survived by her children Stephen (Amy) Boerger, Linda (Shelton) Maier-Byard, Donald L. (Sheila Drumm) Boerger, and John (Susie) Boerger; her grandchildren, Joseph, Stephanie (Adam), Lindsie (King), Halie (Dylan), Justin (Katie), Cory (Jen), Whitney (Nicholas), Donald, Emily (Grace), Nora, Dallas (Kylie), Austin (Emily), Aaron (Betsy), Robert (Craig) and Nicholas (Haley); many great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister-in-law, Mildred Ford; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Underwood Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023. Burial will be beside her husband and daughter at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. Jacob D. Heino will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Community and Seasoned Citizens, where she was a member and to Memorial Hospital Mobile Meals.
