Theodore R. Harder, age 85, of West Mansfield, formerly of Ocala, FL, and Grandview, OH died peacefully in his sleep Monday, September 7, 2015 at his home. A 1959 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Architecture, he was a third generation carpenter/architect and in the early 1960’s, established Harder and Reed Architects in Worthington, Ohio. Although he reached retirement age, he never quit working. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique automobiles, trucks, steam engines and tractors. He restored and established the gristmills and sawmill at the Bob Evans Farm in Rio Grande and was the chief cornmeal grinder at the Bob Evans Farm Festival for over 35 years. He held a private pilot’s license. He was known for his boisterous laugh and telling “tall” tales. He also “picked” the banjo and frequently joined his musical buddies for jam sessions. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. This past May, he was a participant on Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Above all, he will be remembered as a man of skillful knowledge and generosity who loved to laugh. He was born December 19, 1929 in Ewington, Ohio, Gallia County to the late Karl Manard and Doris Snyder Harder. He was also predeceased by an infant son, Karl Dale Harder and a brother, Bradley Harder. He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Helen Marie Gleason Harder, whom he married November 27, 1950 in Vinton, Ohio; his daughter, Gina (Bob) Rought of West Mansfield, OH; his grandson, Brandon Reiser of Greensboro, NC; sisters and brothers, Phyllis Mulholland of Wilkesville, OH, Cletus (Nan) Harder of Gallipolis, OH and Terry (Teresa) Harder of Lily Chapel, OH; his sisters-in-law, Virginia Harder of Ewington, OH and Joan Gibson of Albany, OH; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives. There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Honor Flight, Columbus.
