Dr. Tad A. Sullivan, age 72, of Marysville, died unexpectedly Monday, July 29, 2019 peacefully at his home. He was the longtime owner of Marysville Animal Care Center, which he established in 1982. He was a 1965 graduate of Whetstone High School and received a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University where he served in the ROTC program. He was a veteran of the United States Army from 1969 to 1972 and served in Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from OSU in 1976. “Doc” began his veterinary career in Roanoke, Virginia, and later moved back to Columbus where he was a staff veterinarian at Beechwold Veterinary Hospital. He was an active member of the Richwood Gun Club, former member of the Marysville Lions Club, and a longtime supporter of the Union County Humane Society. He enjoyed golfing and was a participant and supporter of local cultural arts. He was lovingly known for his humorous storytelling and bad jokes. Above all, he was a loving husband and father, and was passionate about his service to his country, his community, and the animal kingdom. His beloved canine companion, Fynnagin, crossed the Rainbow Bridge to make the journey with him a few hours following his death. Tad was born May 1, 1947 in Columbus to the late Clarence and Ruth Ruescher Sullivan. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan Lamb Sullivan, whom he married August 10, 1968 in Columbus; his son, Chris (Shellie) Sullivan of Castle Rock, Colorado; his daughter, Erin Ashley Sullivan of Lewis Center; four grandsons, Zach, Connor, Ryan and Aaron; his sister Kathlene Sullivan of Los Angeles; sister-in-law, Linda (Roy) Henderson of Delaware, Ohio; nephew, Gregg (Kathi) Henderson; niece, Kelly (Ron) Rider; and many other friends, relatives, co-workers, two and four-legged clients, and loved ones including David Robison; Ray and Carolyn Fournier; Becky Beale; Brittany, Kyle, Kassidy, and Colin Henderson; TD and Alex Rider. The family will receive friends 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2019 at Underwood Funeral Home. Callers are encouraged to bring and share photos of their pets whose lives were touched by Doc Sullivan. A private memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Humane Society.
