Ruth Anne Shirk Morse, age 85, died Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida. A lifetime resident of Union County, she retired after almost 30 years in the banking business. Her career began in 1952 with First National Bank on the Marysville town square. The bank later became known as BancOhio and upon her retirement, National City Bank. Throughout her tenure, she assumed many financial roles and positions. A Broadway grade school student and a 1952 graduate of Northwestern High School in Raymond, Ruth Anne received a degree from American Institute of Banking. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Marysville where she was an elder and trustee. She also taught Sunday school for nine years and worked with the children’s program helping institute the Wednesday night youth program. A member of Presbyterian Women, she also served the church on the investment committee and the building committee. She was a former member of Lioness Club, past treasurer of the local American Red Cross, member of Modern Mother’s Study OCCL and Pioneers Club of the Union County Genealogical Society. She and her husband enjoyed wintering in Florida, camping and traveling. They resided at Sunny Grove Park in Estero, Florida. She was born July 13, 1934 in Broadway, Ohio to the late Carl Guy and Ferne Louise Roberts Shirk. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Phyllis Scarborough, Carol Drumm and Debi Shirk. She is survived by her husband, Kermit Nelson Morse, Jr., whom she married June 16, 1956 at First Presbyterian Church of Marysville by Rev. David Thompson; her children, Kermit Nelson (Jana) Morse, III of Plain City, Pamela Anne (Teresa Wallis) Morse of Marysville, Denise Louise (Richard) Ryan of Shakopee, Minnesota and Melissa Sue (William) Cook of Zanesville; six grandchildren, Christopher Ryan, Samantha Ryan, Andrew (Ashley) Cook, Adam (Katie) Cook, Christopher Stitcher and Jennifer Tefft; one great-granddaughter, Jada Tefft; a sister, Arlene Weddel of Florida; and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Underwood Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery in Darby Township. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Union County Red Cross.
