Rosemary Ann Gerda Koper, age 84, of Marysville, formerly of Cleveland, died peacefully Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Memorial Hospital. A registered nurse her entire career, she formerly served at Scioto Village Juvenile Corrections Complex, Delaware Joint Vocational School, Riverside Methodist Hospital, Arbors of Delaware, Charles B. Mills Center, Five County Juvenile Detention Center, Union County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio Reformatory for Women. Her career encompassed all types of nursing, including Director of Nursing, Home Health, Medical Instruction, Surgical Nursing, Patient Teaching and Health Services Coordinator. A graduate of West Tech High School in Cleveland, she received a registered nurse degree from St. John’s School of Nursing and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from The Ohio State University. Rosemary was a recipient of the “Union County Nurse of Hope Award.” She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where she served as a eucharistic minister, coordinated the Catholic Christian Doctrine (CCD) program and sang in the choir. Her community involvement included volunteerism with the March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. She also helped with the Pregnancy Care Center. A devoted and loving wife and mother, she will be most remembered for her zest for life and people. She was born July 26, 1937 in Cleveland to the late John M. and Elizabeth A. Margecansky Gerda. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Louis J. Koper; and her siblings, Ann, John, Joseph, Steven and George. She is survived by her children, James F. Koper of Columbus, John M. Koper of Columbus and Deborah S. (Unkrich) Koper of Cincinnati; her in-laws, Clara Thomas, Florence Chick, Mary Rose (Robert) Deeds, Joseph (Jacqueline) Koper and Francis (Jean) Koper; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2022 at Underwood Funeral Home. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where the family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. A luncheon will be provided following the Mass. The Rev. Fr. Kevin J. Kavanagh will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date at the church cemetery.
