Ronald D. Chapman, age 80, of Marysville, died peacefully Monday, June 8, 2020 at his home surrounded by his children. Ron was owner/operator of Ron Chapman Excavating from 1972 until his retirement in 2005. Throughout his career, he established many longtime friends and acquaintances while digging ponds, constructing roads and driveways and designing water and roadway layouts for housing developments. A pillar of Allen Township, Marysville and Union County, he served as Allen Township Trustee from 1990 to 2020. Prior to his tenure as trustee, Ron served on the zoning appeals board for the township from 1975 to 1990. His passion and determination helped shape Allen Township into what it is today. Since the age of five, he grew up in Allen Township, eventually establishing his family home there. He was a 1958 graduate of Northwestern High School in Raymond and a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge. He was named District Deputy Grand Master in the 1970’s. He enjoyed being with his family at Indian Lake and spending winters in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. He liked boating and fishing. His greatest love was spending time with his late wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was born May 25, 1940 in Logan County, Ohio to the late Richard A. and Alice Mae Bennett Chapman. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Carolyn K. Westlake Chapman, whom he married September 16, 1958; his son, Keith Alan Chapman; two great-grandsons, Colin and Griffin Chapman; his sisters-and brothers-in-laws, Judy Westlake, Rosemary and Dewey Shirk, George and Phyllis Westlake and Willard Ferrell; and his father-and mother-in-law, Samuel and Mary Westlake. He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly (Tim) Moore of Mechanicsburg and Kristi (Jerry) Eads of Milford Center; a son, Kevin (Robin) Chapman of Marysville; a daughter-in-law Tonia Chapman of Marysville; his grandchildren, Duane (Kristi) Moore, Amber (Terry) Gladman, Aaron Eads, Melissa (John) Rickman, Joseph Eads, Kyle (Sarah) Chapman, Dustin (Kylee) Chapman, Shane Chapman, Christy (Chris) Flewwellin, Abby Whiteside, Chelsey Stillings, Derek (Grace) Chapman, Jessica (Garrett) Carpenter and Kaitlyn Chapman; his great-grandchildren, Donovan, Alex, Veronica, Trey, Addison, Sam, Torey, Delaney, Miranda, Graham, Sawyer, Liam, Grant, Kale, Marlie, Ben and Molly; his sisters, Sandy (Tom) Young of Bellefontaine, Judy (Bill) Wical of Bellefontaine, Deanna (Roger) Shumway of Raymond and Becky (Gene) Drumm of Bellefontaine; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Ferrell of Marysville; his brother-in-law, Gerald “Bud” (Julia) Westlake of Marysville; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. A funeral procession will form at Underwood Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2020 to proceed to Broadway Cemetery for a 1:30 p.m. graveside service. Rev. Jack Knox will officiate.
