Robert Lee “Bob” Laird, 86, of Columbus, formerly of Marysville, died Friday, February 10, 2012 at Edgewood Manor of Westerville. He retired after 32 years from Whirlpool Corporation in Marion where he worked as an inspector. Early in his career, he and his brother, Gene Laird, owned Laird Neon which manufactured all types of business signage. The Laird brothers installed the star which still sits atop the Ohio Grain silo in Marysville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served as a Seabee in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of Millcreek VFW Post 3320. An avid golfer of champion quality, he was a former member of Marysville Country Club. He was a longtime member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1130. He was a Marysville High School graduate. He was born January 11, 1926 in Marysville to the late Reginald Otto and Elizabeth Burns Laird and was also predeceased by his first wife, Lila Laird; his second wife, Juanita “Jan” Grauman Laird; his third wife, Jane Baltazar Laird; and his brother, Gene Laird. He is survived by his son, Robin K. Laird of Columbus; his step children, Mike Hanson of Hampton Beach, VA, Greg Hanson of Marysville and Debbie Hanson of Russells Point; and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Underwood Funeral Home where an Elks memorial service will be held following the calling hours. Private interment will be held at a later date.
