Robert L. Kugel

Robert Louis Kugel, age 82, of Marysville, died Monday, September 21, 2020 at Walnut Crossing Assisted Living.  He was a retired associate of National Elevator Inspection Services where he was vice-president of sales.  He later worked for the State of Texas as chief elevator inspector where he had previously lobbied for a state policy that adopted statewide regulations for Elevator Safety. Bob served as a member, and co-chair, of the ASME board that wrote and maintained the national standards for Elevator Safety. He was a 1955 graduate from West Orange High School in New Jersey and attended New York University. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  Bob was active in supporting his sons through the Boy Scout program. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, enjoyed woodworking and motorsports throughout his whole life and had a passion for fast cars and faster boats. He was born October 11, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Louis Robert and Pauline Catherine Rottner Kugel.  Bob was also preceded in death by an infant grandson, Andrew John Kugel; his brother, William Robert Kugel; and his special aunt, Emma Rottner.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, JoBeth Hoehne Kugel, whom he married August 1, 1959 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Runge, Texas; his sons, John R. Kugel of Pottsville, Pennsylvania and Thomas R. Kugel (Patricia) of Marysville; his grandchildren, Aimee (Louis) Keser, Thomas R. Kugel, Jr. and Emma M. Kugel; a great granddaughter, Loralyn N. Keser; his sister, Doris L. Conover of Plano, Texas; a sister-in-law, Geertje Kugel of London, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held at Oakdale Cemetery.  Underwood Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Memorial contributions may be made to Bella Care Hospice “Celebrate Life” at 110 Polaris Parkway, Suite 302, Westerville, Ohio 43082.
