Robert Louis “Bob” Turner, age 84, of Marysville, formerly of Bismarck, Illinois, died Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in Marysville, Ohio. An educator for 80 years, he was an industrial arts teacher in Illinois at Hoopeston High School and Urbana High School. Upon his retirement in 2001, he continued his classroom career as a substitute special education teacher in Brooksville, Florida. He was a graduate of Bismarck High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and a master’s degree from The University of Illinois. Bob enjoyed fishing and participated in Florida with the kayaking team, “The Swampers.” He was known for being handy and telling a corny joke. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and service during the Korean War. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born May 6, 1936 in Danville, Illinois to the late James Wallace and Mabel Thompson Turner. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Matthews Turner, whom he married February 23, 1957; two daughters, Dawn (Kenneth) Chafins of Plain City and Anita Russell of Ostrander; his grandchildren, Chadd (Sarah) Chafins, Amber (Dustin) Hannay, Christen Haldeman and Mark Haldeman, Jr.; his great-grandchildren, Emma, Greyson, Hadley and Brentley; a brother-in-law, Tom (Marjorie) Matthews of Bismarck, Illinois; and nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will plan a memorial service at a later date. Underwood Funeral Home in Marysville, Ohio is assisting the family.
