Richard E. “Dick” Johnson, 71, of Raymond, died early Wednesday, September 11, 2013 with his family at his side at The Gables at Green Pastures following a short illness. For 46 years, he was owner and operator of Johnson’s Garage in Raymond. He retired in 2005. For a few years during his career, he also owned the Sinclair filling station in Raymond. A skilled mechanic and race car builder, he was involved in sprint car racing for many years. In 1984, his race team won the USAC Silver Crown series national championship. He also was a former volunteer with the Liberty Township Fire Department. He enjoyed trap shooting, hunting and model airplanes. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, he was a trusted man with a reputation of integrity and dependability. He was born June 7, 1942 in Kenton to the late Harold and Betty McColloch Johnson and was also predeceased by his wife in 2009, Patty Richie Johnson. He is survived by two sons, Rick (Mary) Johnson of Marysville and Randy (Ellen) Johnson of Raymond; four grandchildren, Darryl Johnson, Danyelle (Craig) Griffith, Ginny Kleiber and Lauren (Mat) Howell; five great-grandchildren, Derek, Shayne, Presley, Chance and Riley; two brothers, Ron (Betty) Johnson of West Mansfield and Bruce (Karen) Johnson of Raymond; a sister, Debbie (Dave) Nicol of Marysville; a brother-in-law, Robert (Barbara) Richie of Greencamp; a sister-in-law, Mary Belle Cooley of Marysville; two aunts, Blanche Watkins and Ruby Montgomery; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Raymond United Methodist Church. Rev. Douglas Flinn will officiate and burial will be beside his wife at Raymond Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Underwood Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Loving Care Hospice or Liberty Township Fire Department.
