Richard W. “Dick” Bergandine, age 71, of North Lewisburg, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 4, 2015 at his home. He retired in 1995 as mailing and printing manager from O. M. Scott and Sons where he worked for 31 years. He also managed the Scotts swimming pool for many seasons. During his retirement, he worked at McAuliffe’s Ace Hardware, primarily in the lawn and garden department. Other career adventures included an insurance agent for Mutual of Omaha, a security guard position and tried his skills as a law enforcement dispatcher. However, the job most cherished to him was providing childcare to his own grandchildren. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served with the naval police at the air base in Sigonella, Italy. A member of AmVets Post 28, he had a passion for military history. He was a ham radio operator, a flower gardener, was a lover of animals and all kinds of music, especially during the Elvis era. He was a former member of Marysville First Congregational United Church of Christ. He was also a former member of East Liberty Lodge No. 247 F & AM, Scottish Rite and Aladdin Shrine. He will be most remembered for his welcoming sense of humor, his natural comradery with family, friends and co-workers, his colorful creativity and patient attitude. He was born June 4, 1943 in Richwood. He was predeceased by his parents, Fay and Francis Kleiber Bergandine. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Suzi L. Hoffman Bergandine, whom he married June 8, 1985 in Marysville; his children, Kim (Mike) Fields of Bellefontaine, Rene (Ronnie) Mays of Huntington, WV, Holly (Eric) Riegel of Marysville and Andrew “Bud” Bergandine of North Lewisburg and Port Orange, FL; seven grandchildren, Michaela Lingrell, Darien Fields, Madison Mays, Bryan Mays, Zach Riegel, Ethan Riegel and Harper Riegel; a sister, Janis Warner of Marysville; a brother, Larry (Gloria) Phipps of Richwood; his father-in-law, Don (Phyllis) Hoffman of Marysville; two sisters-in-law, Sandy (Robert) McNary of Ormond Beach, FL and Mickie (Aaron) Scheiderer of Marysville; and many other relatives, including an aunt, Verna Bergandine in Sunbury. The family will receive friends 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Underwood Funeral Home where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday. Pastors Linda Meredith and Connie Simpson will officiate and burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery.
