The Rev. Dr. Scott L. Strohm, age 60, of Marysville, died peacefully Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Ohio Health Kobacker House at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was the installed minister of First Presbyterian Church of Marysville since May 2006. He formerly served at Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church in Rutledge, Pennsylvania and First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood, Pennsylvania. He was a 1973 graduate of Beaver Area High School in Beaver, PA and received a bachelor’s degree in music education in 1977 from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. Prior to his seminary training, he served as Minister of Music and Christian Education at Simpson United Methodist Church in Canton, Ohio. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, NJ. He was ordained by the Pittsburgh Presbytery in 1984 and later received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He was a member of Marysville Area Ministerial Association. Despite a cancer diagnosis in 2013, he maintained his pastoral duties and continued to enjoy music and reading. He also liked fishing, woodworking and tennis and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Above all, he was devoted to his calling and his family. He was born July 13, 1955 in Rochester, Pennsylvania to the late Albert F. and Gwendollyn Falstick Strohm. He was also predeceased by his father-in-law, T. Phillip Jones. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathy Jones Strohm, whom he married August 8, 1981 in Canton, Ohio; two daughters, Rachel (Justin) Hedges of Marysville and Anna Strohm of Marysville; his granddaughter, Grace Lee Hedges; his sister, Sheri (Andy) Timm of Saint Marys, PA; his brother, Kenneth (Mary) Strohm of Indianapolis, IN; a sister-in-law, Kim (Kent) Smith and mother-in-law, Dorothea Jones, both of Canton; an aunt, Jacquellyn (Ivan) Rausch of Hilliard; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Marysville. Rev. John M. Groat, Pastor Emeritus will officiate and burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Underwood Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
