Pete was kind soul. When I met Pete for the first time, it was as if I had known him forever. I know that is often said about people but with Pete, it was true. He always seemed genuinely interested in what was going on with Carol and me. We will miss his phone calls that had gotten more frequent in the last few years. It was always a treat to speak to Pete; he seemed so happy with his recent move. Carol and I both loved Pete. He was as close to an uncle I could have had....he will be missed...

The last time I saw Pete would have been when I was visiting my mother, Nancy Salmon, in Milton, New Jersey some 30 years ago. It meant a lot to my mom that Pete would stop by on a regular basis to share a martini and some cheese and crackers. Pete gave me tips on trimming my rose bushes which I followed for years. After giving it some consideration, I am going to donate to the Dallas Arboretum in his memory. I am presently living in Plano, Texas and have enjoyed many times with my children and grandchildren at the arboretum. I think Pete would smile at that. Another very distinct memory I have of Pete and Joan, is meeting them for breakfast at a restaurant in Burlington, Vermont - home of UVM . I'm a UVM graduate also. They called one morning while I was still asleep and invited me to meet them. I was confused, but when I realized who it was, I ran down town and we met up. This is, of course, before cell phones or even a phone in the dorm room. There was one phone for the entire floor. All turned out well and we had a lovely visit.
