Pastor Peter Miller, Jr., age 84, of Hilliard, formerly of Marysville, died Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Embassy Forest Hills Care Center following a two-year illness. A southern Baptist minister, he received his degree from Southwestern Theological Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas following his discharge from the military. He was called to his first pulpit charge in Conneaut, Ohio where he served for 13 years. He then moved to Columbus where he served as a church “planter” and traveled to many states to start over 100 Baptist churches. As a resident of Union County, he served at Marysville First Baptist Church and offered ministerial support to the local Pregnancy Care Center, Juvenile Detention Center and various area nursing homes. He will be remembered for walking the streets of Marysville to meet his community and share his deep, profound faith. Of German descent, he immigrated with his parents to the United States at the age of 17 and soon enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served twenty-two years and received the Bronze Star. His tour of duty included Germany, Iceland and Vietnam. He was known as a man of humility and believed in the powerful Grace of his Lord. He was born May 21, 1932 in Rastovatz, Yugoslavia to the late Peter and Margaret Fleisch Miller, Sr. and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Addison. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Rippert Miller, whom he married August 21, 1955 in Cranesville, Pennsylvania; his children, David Miller of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Glenn (Kimberly)Miller of Kansas City, Missouri, Debi (Bob) Hill of Hilliard, Gretchen Addison of Hilliard and Stephen (Kaylee) Miller of New Albany; eleven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; his brother, Fred (Adeline) Miller of Springboro, Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Kay Nagy of Sharon Center, Ohio; and other relatives and many friends. The family will receive friends 2 to 6 p.m. Monday at Underwood Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016. Pastor Jim Gardner will officiate and burial will be at Mount Herman Cemetery will full military honors provided by the Union County Military Funeral Honor Guard.
