Oscar “John” Burns, 79, of Marysville, died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the Gables at Green Pastures following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer’s Disease. A machinist, he was a retired associate of Dana in Hilliard and was a former associate of Rockwell International. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of Blues Creek Golf Club. He was also a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Marysville Lodge No. 1130. He was born May 25, 1933 in Union County to the late John and Fannie Golden Burns and was also predeceased by his aunt and uncle who raised him, Arthur and Flora Knotts; a sister, Imogene Evans; and two brothers-in-law, Josie Evans and Don Coe. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sally Gase Burns, whom he married June 15, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church; three sons, Rick (Diana) Burns of Mechanicsburg, Randy (Kim) Burns of Arlington, TX and Terry (Megan) Burns of Maineville; six grandchildren, Cory (Shawn) Penhorwood, Lisa (William) Blevins, Marcie (Jerome) Shirley, Nicole Burns, Quinten Burns and Kinsey Burns; four great grandchildren: Abigail, Riley, Isaac and Dylon; and a sister, Mary (Clifford) Huffman of Kenton. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Underwood Funeral Home where the family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. An Elks memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Barry Scott will officiate and burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Ohio Alzheimer’s Association or National Parkinson Society of Central and Southeast Ohio.
