September 9, 2016
Nancy Jane Connor McKean Hoffman, age 80, of Grafton, Ohio, peacefully left this life on September 9, 2016 in the early morning hours while she slept. She was born January 2, 1936 in Mansfield, Ohio. During her childhood, the family moved several times, but her years living on a farm were the fondest of her childhood memories and the subject of many conversations over the years. She attended Mansfield High School and went to Bliss College in Columbus for a year while living with her Aunt Grace. She later went on to study nursing at Mansfield General Hospital where she earned a degree as a registered nurse.
She married Russell Arthur McKean in September 1959. They lived in Leesville, Ohio for several years before moving to western Pennsylvania after Russell’s transfer with the Pennsylvania Railroad. Russell passed away in 1977. She and her six children returned to Ohio in 1978.
She later married Melvin Hoffman in 1984 in Columbus, Ohio and the couple soon after moved to the Cleveland area where Melvin took a job with the Department of Defense and Nancy spent her days as a homemaker. She loved visits with her children, especially from her daughters Lisa and Kelly who made almost weekly trips to Grafton in Nancy’s later years.
Nancy loved food and cooked her way into the hearts of church friends, painted some landscapes, but not enough, loved word games and birds and music, especially opera. Nancy loved God and knew Jesus as her Savior.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Melva Weininger Connor and youngest brother George Michael Connor; a granddaughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Nunamaker; and a son-in-law Ken Carswell. She is survived by her husband, Melvin; her brother Jack (Caroline) Connor and sister Maureen Kay Prinz; step-children, David (Marge) McKean, Kathy Carswell and Steve (Teri) McKean; her children, Scott McKean, John (Susan) McKean, Joe (Cathy) McKean, Dan (Mary) McKean, Kelly (Gary) Everetts and Lisa (Rick) Bennett; grandchildren, Terri, Mark, Becky, Brenda, Steve Jr., Melissa, David, Sarah, Derek, Matt, Josie, Jack, Dustin, Hunter, Ryan, Colin, Samantha, Emma, Joshua, Amber and Garrett; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Underwood Funeral Home, 703 East Fifth Street, Marysville. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blendon Central Cemetery, 6330 S. Hempstead Road
Westerville, OH 43081. Samantha McKean will officiate. The Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church will host a luncheon following the cemetery interment. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.underwood16.wpengine.com.
