Nancy Carol Dodd Esthus, 59, of Marysville, died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at her home. She retired from Marysville Schools where she worked for 35 years as a sixth grade mathematics teacher. She also served as a Marysville middle school seventh grade girls’ basketball coach. A 1970 graduate of Marysville High School, she was involved in band, the MHS Girl’s Athletic Association and worked at the Marysville Public Library. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree in teacher leadership from Wright State University. She was an avid OSU Buckeye football and basketball fan. She enjoyed distance running and playing racquetball at the Union County YMCA. At one point, she was ranked first in the state amongst female racquetball competitors in her age bracket. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marysville. She loved fashion, making chocolate confections for her family, friends and students and spending time at the pool. She deeply loved her Golden Retrievers, Brandy and Bailey. Above all, she was a conscientious and loving mother and devoted her out-of-school time to her children’s activities. She was born August 15, 1952 at Memorial Hospital of Union County to the late Ross Senff and Lila Strauss Dodd and was also predeceased by her husband, David Alan Esthus on Sept. 10, 2009. She is survived by her children, Benjamin M. Esthus of Grandview, Nicholas D. Esthus of Memphis, TN and Kathryn R. Esthus and her fiancée, Donte Hamilton, both of Austin, TX; her sister, Judith D. (David) Green of Marysville; her niece, Paden (Brett) Green-Tossey of Marysville; her great-nephew, Paul Tossey; her mother-and father-in-law, Don and Shirley Esthus of Farmington, CT; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Greg (Margie) Esthus of Simsbury, Connecticut, Bradley (Jackie) Esthus of Attleboro, Massachusetts and Beverly (Carl) Allard of Stilwell, Kansas; an aunt, Evon Howard of Mulberry, Florida; and many supportive and loving friends. The family will receive friends 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of Marysville. Rev. Scott L. Strohm and Rev. John M. Groat will officiate. Private interment will be held at Oakdale Cemetery beside her husband. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Cancer Society.
