Mary Elizabeth Kreis Savage

Mary Elizabeth Click Kreis Savage, age 99, of Milford Center, died peacefully Friday, July 16, 2021 at Monarch Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marysville.  Born May 16, 1922 to the late Clayton and Blanche Lee Click, in rural Morrow County, Mary attended Edison School for six years and graduated from Cardington High School in 1940.  She married her husband of 63 years, Fred H. Kreis on November 16, 1941 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cardington by Rev. Herbert Hopp. Fred was discharged from the United States Army in 1945. In 1960, Fred and Mary and their three sons moved from Cardington to Milford Center where Fred took a job with Farmers and Merchants bank.  Mary worked parttime as a bookkeeper and at the orchard in Milford Center. In 1967, the family moved to North Cherry Street in Marysville. Mary worked parttime for the Coleman Law Office during the 1970s and 80s.  An accomplished fine artist, Mary was a co-founder of the Marysville Art League, established in 1979.  She taught scores of artists, young and old, in oils, watercolors and acrylics. She also enjoyed genealogy and extensively researched the Kreis, Click and Lee lineage. Born a Methodist, Mary was on the Cradle Roll at Bethel Methodist Church in the rural area of Cardington, where she was baptized at the age of 12.  Following her marriage to Fred, Mary became a Lutheran and has been a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Marysville. Fred died on Easter morning in 2004.  On May 2, 2005, Mary married William Peters Savage and resided with him in Upper Arlington until his death on December 9, 2017. Mary will be especially remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents and husbands, Mary was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Crum and Frances Hayes; and a three-year-old brother, Richard. She is survived by her sons, John (Elizabeth Ann) Kreis of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, Steve (Joy) Kreis of Milford Center and Mark (Patty) Kreis of Ostrander; her grandchildren, Matthew Kreis, Kimberly (Shane) Bailey, Susan Kreis and Bill (Jeannie) Kreis; her great-grandchildren, Nicholas Mullet, Madalyn Bailey, Christopher Bailey, Rya Kreis, Fred Kreis and William Kreis; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Underwood Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marysville.  Pastor Beth Clothier will officiate. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery in Cardington.  Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. Condolences may be expressed to the family at
