Mary Anne Kruse

April 10, 2022

Mary Anne Steinhauer Kruse, age 81, died Sunday, April 10, 2022 at The Ohio State University Medical Center. A registered nurse, she was a 1958 graduate of Villa Madonna Academy in Villa Hills, Kentucky and received her nursing degree in 1961 from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and Thomas Moore College in Covington, Kentucky. Mary Anne’s nursing career included St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Covington, Memorial Hospital of Union County, Riverside Methodist Hospital and Interim Home Health Care. She received the Ohio Council for Home Care and Hospice Award for Excellence in 2011 and was a volunteer for Loving Care Hospice, with both in-home and Children’s Hospital patients. Her volunteerism also included the Kairos prison ministry and as a parish nurse for Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where she was a longtime member. She was known for a deep devotion to her patients, always going “above and beyond.” During the early 70’s and 80’s, she was co-owner and operator of Peter Pan Palace Day Care Center in Marysville for ten years. She continued contact with some of her former day care kids who now have children of their own. Described as “The Energizer Bunny” by friends and co-workers, she gave so much of herself in all her endeavors and always kept “going and going.” Always friendly, positive and outgoing, Mary Anne had a passion for helping people. She loved sending cards to family and friends and former clients, often mailing dozens of handwritten cards a month with words of friendship, love and encouragement. She was a big fan of Ohio State football and basketball and the Cincinnati Reds. While wearing the Scarlet and Gray, she will be remembered for cheering VERY loudly. She loved gardening and cherished spending time with family, especially at Indian Lake. A very proud Grandma, she was lovingly called “Dee-Dee” by her grandchildren and spent individual time with each of them just talking, listening, playing games and really getting to know them. She had a very special and close relationship with each and every one of them. She was born in Covington, Kentucky on September 22, 1940 to the late Frederick John and Mary Elizabeth (Crockett) Steinhauer. She was also preceded in death on February 18, 2022 by her husband of 59 years, Thomas Lee Kruse; and two sisters, Katherine Steinhauer and Barbara Steinhauer. She is survived by her children, Theresa (Scott) Scheiderer of Marysville, Tom (Susan) Kruse of Scottsdale, Arizona, Jeannie (Joel) Pape of South Dakota, John Paul Kruse of Reynoldsburg and Ashley (Jamey) Sinclair of Marysville; her grandchildren, Juliana and Jack Scheiderer, Mallory, Claire and Nolan Kruse, Casey and Zack (Caro) Shull, Breanna, Gabe, Thad and Lydia Kruse; a great-grandson, Lucas Shull; her brother, Jerry (Beverly) Steinhauer of Alabama; her in-laws, Bob (Carol) Kruse of Indianapolis and Jim (Nancy) Kruse of Pennsylvania; and nieces, nephews and other relatives. Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2022 at Underwood Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Kevin J.
