Mary A Arnett

April 17, 1939 - December 2, 2012

Mary Alice Lowe Arnett, age 73, of Marysville, formerly of Mechanicsburg, died Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville. After more than 24 years, she retired as Captain with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. She worked at the Ohio Reformatory for Women and Franklin Pre-Release Center in Columbus. Before she was named Captain, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections awarded her with State Employee Excellence Award Correction Officer of the Year. In 1986 she was named Ohio Reformatory for Women Correctional Employee of the Year. She was a member of Marysville Church of the Nazarene. In her retirement, she worked for Loving Care Hospice and private home health as a caregiver. She also worked with the Union County Department of Developmental Disabilities and provided individual social assistance. She will be most remembered for her compassionate heart, approachable personality and her deep devotion to her daughter, Diatra, who battled Huntington’s Disease for many years. She was born April 17, 1939 in Columbus to the late Elmer and Ida Yates Lowe and was also predeceased in 2001 by her daughter, Diatra “Dee Dee” Wild; and her siblings, Harold Lowe, Clarence Lowe, Jim Lowe, Kenneth Lowe and Polly Giffen. She is survived by her children, Ed (Paula) Arnett of Somerset, Jeff Arnett of Pataskala and Linda McDonald of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren, Laura Arnett, Dustin Hilliard, Arianne Wild, Jessica McDonald and Jacob McDonald; eight great-grandchildren, Hannah, Toby, Bella, Lexie, Gabe, Aiden, Brennen and Colin; a brother, Donald Lowe of Pickerington and a sister, Mildred Jewell of Pataskala; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Underwood Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Pastors Paul Whiteford and Rich Applegarth will officiate and burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Condolences may be expressed to the family at
