Marilyn R. Reed John, 80, of Marysville, died Friday, September 20, 2013 at Carriage Court Assisted Living in Marysville. A homemaker, she was known for her diverse artistic skills, including acrylic painting, doll making, clay sculpting and floral designing. She was a florist for her brother-in-law’s flower shop, Gibson’s, in Delaware for many years. She was one of the founders of Marysville Art League and served as president during the formative years. She oversaw the league’s development and use of the Houston House in the 1970’s. She was a member of Windsor and Community Seniors and formerly served on the board. As a youngster, she grew up in the Springdale area of Dover Township and was a lifetime member of Springdale Baptist Church, where her father was pastor for many years. She was a 1952 graduate of New Dover High School. She was an avid reader, wrote poetry and enjoyed gardening. She was born Feburary 17, 1933 in Amelia, Ohio to the late Rev. George C. and Christina Griffith Reed and was also predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Fritz K. John; a sister, Jacqueline Reed Graves; and a brother-in-law, Bill Conklin. She is survived by her son, Doug John of Plain City; her daughter, Lynn Blackburn of Marysville; two grandsons, Jesse (Lindsay) Blackburn of Columbus and Chase (Megan) Blackburn of Charlotte, NC; three great-grandsons, Landyn, Bentley and Wyatt; a sister, Joan (Harold) Rittenhouse of Delaware; a brother-in-law, Richard Graves of Iowa; a sister-in-law, Nancy Conklin of Marysville; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Springdale Baptist Church.
