Lucille Genevieve Mallett Powers, age 96, of Richwood, died Monday, January 19, 2015 at Memorial Gables in Marysville. An educator for 37 years, she taught business courses in shorthand, typing and bookkeeping, mostly in the North Union School District. She was a graduate of Stafford High School near Lewisville, Ohio. She was a member of Marysville Church of Christ. Following retirement, she worked for many years with the Ohio Quarter Horse Association. She enjoyed flower gardening, baking and canning and especially loved being a grandmother. She was born March 27, 1918 in Lewisville, Ohio to the late Urban and Susie Billman Mallett. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Harry Edward Powers who died November 20, 2013; her brother, Jim Mallett; her brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Marge Mallett; and her sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Everett Taylor. She is survived by two sons, Franklin (Sally) Powers of Caldwell and Keith (Tara) Powers of Richwood; four grandchildren, Russ (Janet) Powers, Phillip Powers, Talyn (Keith) Scowden and Tyne Powers; great grandchildren, Aaron and Deven Powers and Braedon and Hayes Scowden; a brother, Franklin Mallett; two sisters, Geneva Powers and Gladys Cunningham; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday at Underwood Funeral Home where the family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Ed Beeson will officiate and burial will be at Claibourne Cemetery in Richwood.
