Lowell T Cavender

Lowell Thomas “Tom” Cavender, 78, of Richwood, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Carriage Court of Hilliard following a brief illness. He was owner of the former Cavender’s Hardware Store in Richwood. Prior to that, he owned a store in Minster. He retired from hardware in 2006 after more than 25 years total in the business. During the 1970’s, he owned and operated Cavender’s Dairyland across from Legion Park in Marysville. His first retirement in 1980 was from Denison Hydraulics where he worked as a machinist and engineer for 25 years. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Lodge No. 303 F & AM and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Columbus. He was a 1953 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, West Virginia. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with his brothers and sons in West Virginia and Canada. In recent years, he found great pleasure in journeying many times to Alaska to pan gold. He was a member of the Prospectors’ Club. More than anything, he loved visiting with family and friends. He was born May 24, 1935 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Luther and Alma Hazel Parsons Cavender and was also predeceased by his son, Ken “Stump” Cavender in 2011; and his daughter-in-law, Jeri Lynn Baltazar Cavender in 2009. He is survived by the mother of his children and his wife of 56 years, Naomi Cavender; his son, Randy Cavender of Marysville; his daughter, Kathy (Rachid) Rahmani of Marysville; a daughter-in-law, Kari Cavender of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Brittany (Mark) Hanby, Daniel, Kyle, Nathan and Christy Cavender and Tahar, Yasmine and Taleb Rahmani; three great-grandchildren, Lexi and Lincoln Hanby and Nadia Rahmani; his sister, Sandra (Jim) Keiffer of West Virginia; three brothers, John (Ruth) Cavender of Georgia, Steve (Sue) Cavender of West Virginia and Chuck (Vicki) Cavender of West Virginia; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and family friends, including Nancy Davis of Marysville and his close companion of many years, Shirley Kirkpatrick of Richwood. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Underwood Funeral Home where the family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday where a Masonic memorial service will be held following the calling hours.
