Lori L Lazenby

September 3, 1963 - October 7, 2012

Lori Lee Lazenby, 49, of Powell, formerly of Marysville, died Sunday, October 7, 2012 at HomeReach Hospice Kobacker House due to treatment complications after a nine-month battle with myelodysplastic syndrome. A 1981 graduate Marysville High School, Lori’s life centered around music as she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from The Ohio State University. Following graduation, she began a distinguished twenty-three year career as a music teacher, beginning in Kentucky with the Bourbon County School District. In the Columbus area, she spent multiple years at Brown Elementary School in Hilliard, Big Walnut Middle School and most recently, at Worthington Hills Elementary School. Although having played multiple instruments in high school, Lori’s musical focus both personally and professionally shifted towards vocals. She directed many choral groups through the years including two award-winning show choirs, the Brown Elementary “Swing Cats”, and the Worthington Hills Elementary “Hilltoppers.” In addition, for the past six years, she served conductor for the Con Brio Children’s Choir, directing their youngest singers in both the Prelude and Amabile Choirs. Professionally, Lori was a member of the America Orff Schulwerk Association, the American Choral Directors Association, and the Music Educators National Conference. Her ability to connect with children, both musically and personally, was unparalleled. She attended Vineyard Columbus and was a member of its worship arts team, singing at both the Westerville and Lane Avenue churches. She loved the Lord, Jesus Christ and truly enjoyed and cherished her family and friends. She was born September 3, 1963 in Columbus and is survived by her devoted parents, Paul and Jackie Wishart Lazenby of Marysville; her brother, Todd (Stevie) Lazenby of Dryden, NY; her nephew, Caleb and niece, Lilli, also of Dryden; her uncle and aunts, Dave (Gerry) Lazenby of London and Beverly Moore of Columbus; five cousins, Jamie (Tom) McClary, Sandy (Terry) Green, both of Columbus, Jeff (Jeannie) Lazenby of Piedmont,Wedge (Merri) Lazenby of St. Charles, IL, and Marnie Lazenby of Rockford, IL. A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2012 in the chapel of the Vineyard Columbus, 6000 Cooper Road, Westerville, Ohio, 43081. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lori Lazenby Memorial Music Fund to enhance music education for elementary students, in care of 22760 Pelomar Lane, Marysville, Ohio 43040 or HomeReach Hospice Kobacker House, 800 McConnell Drive, Columbus, Ohio, 43214.
