Lester John Edward Wolff

August 28, 1921 - March 11, 2015

Lester John Edward Wolff, age 93, of Chuckery, died early Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Heartland of Marysville. He was born and raised on the family homestead near Chuckery, where he lived and farmed his entire life. He was a graduate of Union Rural Local High School in Milford Center and a longtime member St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chuckery where he was baptized, sang in the choir and served on church council. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing in the Lutheran dartball league for 65 years. A 4-H advisor for Darby Valley Producers Club for 35 years, also served on the Union County 4-H Advisory Council. He also was a member of Union County Farm Bureau and the Darby Plain Talkers Farm Bureau council. He was a volunteer for Memorial Hospital of Union County mobile meals for 25 years and accrued almost 3800 hours. A member of Windsor and Community Singers, he sang with the Windsor Singers for many years. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with his family. He was born August 28, 1921 in Milford Center to the late William Conrad and Anna Margaret Kandel Wolff. He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Irene Wolff. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Martha Wolpert Wolff, whom he married May 4, 1947 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church; his children, Paul (Carla) Wolff of Columbus, IN, Susan (Tim) Crusey of Huntsville and John (Martha) Wolff of Milford Center; four grandchildren, Brian (Pam) Wolff, Sara (Chris) Branaman, Rachel Crusey (Kevin) Schrock and Leah Crusey; two step-grandsons, William and Nathan Harms; two step-great-grandchildren, Corey and Sara Ullrich; brothers-and sisters-in-law, Bernard Wolpert, Walter (Phyllis) Wolpert, Ruth Schroer, Lois (Herbert) Nicol and Esther Carmany; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends, including his loving church family. The family will receive friends from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Paul R. Schlueter will officiate and burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or mobile meals at Memorial Hospital.
