June Ann Dillow Ray, age 94, of Mt. Gilead, formerly of Marysville, died Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Woodside Village Care Center.
A medical transcriptionist, she was a staff member for twelve years in Memorial Hospital’s medical records department and worked for former local physicians, Dr. James Sampsel, Dr. Timothy Pelfrey and Dr. Bradley Bryan.
June was a graduate of Woodstock High School and attended Marysville First Congregational Church. She liked playing Bingo and enjoyed fishing. A woman of great strength, she was a humble soul and maintained an enduring attitude even as she carried her grief throughout life in losing two sons.
She was born October 1, 1928 in Columbus to the late Howard and Mayme Thomas Dillow. She was also preceded in death in 2008 by her husband of 40 years, James M. Ray, whom she married on March 22, 1968; her sons, LCpl James E. Kandel and infant John Frederick Kandel; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Kandel; and many other relatives.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy (Jeff) Mouser of Marysville; her son, Timothy Kandel of Mt. Gilead; her granddaughters, Sarah (Brad) Brown, Emily (Justin) Turner and Erika (Cecil) Beasley; her great-granddaughters, Ava Brown and Stella Beasley; several step-children/grandchildren; and other relatives.
The family will hold private services with interment at Oakdale Cemetery. Underwood Funeral Home is assisting the family.
