Joyce Mitchell

Joyce Nadine Hudson Mitchell, 82, of Marysville, formerly of Milford Center, died Saturday, April 3, 2021 at The Bluebird Retirement Community.  She was a retired senior insurance adjuster for CNA Insurance Company for 20 years. A member of Milford Center United Methodist Church, she most recently attended Allen Center Baptist Church and enjoyed Bible study at Trinity Chapel in Milford Center. A 1957 graduate of Galatia High School in Galatia, Illinois, Joyce received a bachelor’s degree in Biology from McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois where she also studied physical education. Joyce enjoyed handicrafts and was a proficient quilter. She participated with the Marysville First United Methodist Church quilting group and with quilters in the Hilliard area. She and her late husband, Larry, loved to travel throughout the United States.  She will be most remembered for her outgoing demeanor, her big smile, her creativity and hospitality, but especially for her love of family. She was born February 26, 1939 in Golden Gate, Illinois to the late Rev. LeRoy and Bernice Leet Hudson.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Larry D. Mitchell, whom she married April 20, 1962 in Noble, Illinois; and a sister, Jean Delap. She is survived by her children, Jeannene (Jeff) Henault of Marysville, Craig (Melody) Mitchell of Marion and Sheila (Matt) Mitchell of Milford Center; her grandchildren, Logan Mitchell, Wade (Lindsey) Mitchell, Weston (Rachael) Henault and Lizzie (Matt) Henry; her great-grandchildren, Urijah, Grayson and Baker; her brother, Odis (Sherry) Hudson of Colorado; a sister-in-law, Sue Roser of Carmi, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Underwood Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Union Township Cemetery in Milford Center.  Rev. Pamela Connolly will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Milford Center Food Pantry. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.underwoodfuneralhome.com.
