Joyce Ann Sylvia Parent, age 71, of Marysville died Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She retired from New Bedford High School in Massachusetts where she was a cafeteria cook for eight years. A skilled dressmaker, she was a professional seamstress nearly all her life. She worked in various factories in Massachusetts, fabricating all types of clothing. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Marysville. Above all, she was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a dedicated grandmother. She was born March 2, 1942 in New Bedford, Massachusetts to the late Joseph and Mary Rapoza Sylvia and was also predeceased by her brother, Earl Sylvia. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert Parent, whom she married July 28, 1962 in New Bedford; two daughters, Michelle (Allen) Parent-Wetmore of Attleboro, MA and Rochelle (John) Kunkler of Marysville; two grandsons, Hunter and Indiana Parent-Wetmore and two granddaughters, Hope and Abigail Kunkler; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Sylvia of California; a niece, Diane Sylvia-Norocea of California; two brothers-in-law, Joseph (Darlene) Parent of Florida and Gerald (Suzanne) Parent of Massachusetts; and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 2 – 6 p.m. Tuesday at Underwood Funeral Home where the Holy Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Marysville. The Rev. David A. Poliafico will officiate. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family at
