Josephine Martha DeLorenzo Knight, age 79, of Ostrander, died peacefully at her home on Monday, December 31, 2018 following complications from cancer. She retired from Memorial Hospital of Union County where she was a registered nurse for twenty years. She received her nursing degree from Marion Technical College. Following graduation from Bishop McDonald High School in Brooklyn, New York, she received a bachelor’s degree in early education from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn and taught for 17 years in New York state. A devout member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where she assisted with the church’s parish school of religion. She was a member of Union County PERI and enjoyed reading and traveling. Among many journeys, she especially appreciated her safari to South Africa, trips to Norway and New Zealand and two jaunts to China. She was born April 2, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Anthony and Tina Castallana DeLorenzo. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Paul DeLorenzo. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles Andrew Knight, whom she married on August 19, 1961 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Brooklyn; her children, Charles (Marla) Knight of Powell, Michael Knight, New Orleans, Karen (Michael) Scotti of Burlington, NJ and Steven Knight of Powell; her grandson, Vincent Knight; two sisters-in-law, Gloria DeLorenzo and Patricia Knight; two brothers-in-law, Paul Knight and Gerard Knight; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Underwood Funeral Home where the Holy Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Kevin J. Kavanagh will officiate. Following a luncheon at the church, an entombment service will be held at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery in Pataskala. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Faith Mission (Lutheran Social Services) or Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).
