Joseph William Conklin, age 94, of Ostrander, died Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at The Bluebird Retirement Community. A lifelong farmer, he and his family owned and operated a dairy and grain farm for many years in Ostrander. He served in the United States Navy. Among many recognitions, Joe was named Delaware County Chamber of Commerce “Business Man of the Year,” and was quite active in Ostrander Business Association. He was a former board member for Del-Co Water and a past board member of Delaware County Bank and Grady Memorial Hospital. He and his late wife, Mildred, volunteered with the hospital’s mobile meals program where they both accrued over 2000 hours. As a former Buckeye Valley School board member, he was instrumental in the school’s consolidation and the construction of the new Buckeye Valley High School. A 1944 graduate of New Dover High School, he and his family were members of Ostrander Methodist Church. He and his wife later attended Ostrander Presbyterian Church. He was very active with the Ostrander Senior Citizens and played euchre with the Marysville card club. He will be especially remembered for his devotion and service to his community and his genuine kindness. He will be deeply missed by his friends and staff at The Bluebird. He was born September 23, 1926 in Union County to the late Dale and Jennie Janes Conklin. He was also predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Mildred “Mid” Robinson Conklin; his daughter, Linda Taylor; his grandson, Dale Conklin; and his sister, Betty Conklin. He is survived by his sons, Russell (Amanda “Red” ) Conklin of Marysville, William (Nikki) Conklin of Ostrander; his daughters, Janet (Keith) Ott of Plain City and Mary (Jim) Rodman of Radnor; his grandchildren, Joe (Laura) Young, Heath (Tricia) Conklin, Oliver Conklin, Eric (Barbara) Conklin, Sarah (Lalo) Segoviano, Jarrett (Misty) Bauder, Justin (Sarah) Bauder, Matthew King, Ryan (Kimberly) King; great-grandchildren, Grant, Stella, Payton, Maebree, Ava, Noah, Ian, Libby, Will, Marcos, Abby, Isabella, Mya, Reagan, Jackson, Kennedy and Lincoln; and many other relatives. The family will receive friends 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021 at The Conklin Farm, 10401 Marysville Road, Ostrander where a moment of remembrance, military honors and a light meal will follow the calling hours. The family requests that COVID precautions be used. Private family graveside services will be held at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County 4-H Endowment or to a charity of choice. Underwood Funeral Home is assisting the family.
