John M. MacIvor

John Malcolm MacIvor, age 69, of Columbus, died Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A 1969 graduate of Marysville High School, he attended Wittenberg University. A veteran of the United States Navy, he enlisted in 1973 and served on the USS Wabash. He was a 32-year die maintenance associate of Honda of America. John was a member of Life Community Church of Hilliard and held a scholarly sense of The Bible, studying the Book daily.  John also had a large library related to his studies of The Bible. He and his brother engaged frequently in eschatological discussions. He loved the beach, fishing, camping, yardwork and puttering in his workshop building bird houses. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and brother and cherished being a Pappaw to his three grandchildren. John was born July 10, 1951 in Delaware, Ohio to the late Dr. Malcolm G. and Barbara E. MacIvor. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susan Spain MacIvor, whom he married March 29, 1979; his son, James (Rebecca) MacIvor of Columbus; his daughter, Beth (Justin) Martinelli of Columbus; his grandchildren, Gavin, Gino and Evie; his brother, Duncan C. (Virginia) MacIvor of Kentucky; his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Hendricks of Colorado; his nieces and nephews, Lauren, Craig, Jessica, Heather, Thomas, Terry, Kathy, Christie and Tim; many cousins and other relatives and friends. A funeral procession will form at 1 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2020 at Underwood Funeral Home and proceed to Oakdale Cemetery for a 1:30 p.m. graveside service. Pastor Dan Burmeister will officiate and military honors will be provided by the Union County Military Funeral Honor Guard. Due to the pandemic, a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Life Community Church of Hilliard, 4400 Cemetery Road, Hilliard, Ohio 43026.
