JoAnn Margaret Coleman Hodges, age 96, of Marysville, died Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Memorial Gables. She retired from the Union County Board of Education where she served as secretary for more than 35 years. A baptized and confirmed member of Marysville First Congregational United Church of Christ, she was presently the longest serving member and was active on various committees, including serving as a deacon, on the missionary guild and with the calling committee. She was a member of Mayflower Circle of the International Order of King’s Daughters and Sons for over 70 years. JoAnn was a volunteer for Memorial Hospital mobile meals and the VFW Post 3320 ladies auxiliary. She and her late husband, Charles, enjoyed traveling, camping, taking chartered trips to many destinations and occasionally wintered in Florida. She was a member of Windsor and Community Seniors and Union County Seasoned Citizens and participated in many of their activities. JoAnn always had a love of music and dancing and enjoyed exercising at the local YMCA. She was well-known and loved for her cooking, especially peanut butter fudge. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt and cherished spending time with her family. She was born on St. Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1922 in Union County to the late Leo and Lucy Rutan Coleman. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charles T. Hodges, whom she married January 10, 1943 in Marion, Arkansas; her grandson, Bryan Rice; her brother, Ben Coleman; her sister, Betty Hill; and her brothers-and sisters-in-law, Mary Coleman, Max Shuman, Burl Hill, Arthur and Winifred Lowe and James and Vera Hodges. She is survived by her children, Sue Ann Rice, Duane (Teresa) Hodges and Christy (John) Delewese, all of Marysville; her grandchildren, Curtis Allen Rice, Matthew (Shavon) Hodges, Jim (Jamie) Hodges and Nick (Ashley) Hodges; her great-grandchildren, Brandon and Daniel Rice and Hayden, Lauren, Ethan, Jackson, Abigail, Rivers, Harrison and Beck Hodges; and several nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home where visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral service. Rev. Linda Meredith will officiate and JoAnn will be buried beside her husband at Oakdale Cemetery.
