Jesse W. Dowdy, Jr., age 83, of Marysville, formerly of Marietta, died Monday, June 10, 2019 at Memorial Hospital in Union County. He was a longtime associate of Funk Finecast in Columbus where he served as maintenance supervisor. Following retirement, he was a parts deliveryman for Advance Auto Parts in Marysville. Born and raised in Paducah, Kentucky, he graduated from Reidland High School. Early in his career, he worked for the United States Corps of Engineers building locks and dams and was stationed in Marietta, Ohio. While in Marietta, he owned and operated United Tube and TV Sales and Service, Inc. He was a member of Souls Harbor Baptist Church in Marietta where he was a teacher in the AWANA program. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and was a member of the country band, “Jesse and the James Gang.” He was a loving and devoted husband, father and “Pawpaw.” He was born May 12, 1936 in Paducah, Kentucky to the late Jesse W. and Mary Alta Sellars Dowdy, Sr. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Russell and Curtis; a granddaughter, Sabrina Quinones; and a great-grandson, Hunter Woodford. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Wyatt Dowdy, whom he married February 18, 1953 in Cornith, Mississippi; three daughters, Sheela (Paul) Miller of Marietta, Anita Marie (Joby) Woodford of Marysville and Theresa (Shawn) Marshall of St. Marys, West Virginia; his grandchildren, Shannon (Shawn) Strickler, Jay (Tina) Woodford, Josh (Miranda) Woodford, Chuck Kiggans, Kayla (Patrick) Kiggans Whitaker, Alicia Kiggans, Julia Marshall, Alec Marshall, Jessilyn Kiggans and Eduardo Quinones; great-grandchildren, Ali, Raygan, Evan, Gracyn, Jalyn, Savannah, Spencer, Shayla, Eleisea, Wyatt, Sage, Cam, Ava, Trenton, Maliyah, Carly and Tabi; his sister, Helen Russell; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Underwood Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Marietta.
