Janice Warne

Janice Rae “Jinni” Segers Warne, age 60, of Marysville, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville. What follows is not a summation of her life because no one’s life, especially one as vibrant as hers, can be reduced to words, no matter the eloquence. Written here instead is a son’s poor attempt to honor her memory by highlighting just a few of her passions and accomplishments, hinting at the legacy she leaves behind that can only be fully understood by the hearts of those she touched.

A teacher for many years, Jinni served as director of preschools, co-managed a year-round Christian camp and conference center, and managed several restaurants. One of her greatest joys, as an admirer of children, was serving as a nanny for two special families and operating a preschool from her home. She enjoyed cooking, camping, gardening, and the warmth of sunlight on her skin. Jinni’s love of the outdoors overflowed into her love of art where, as a skilled painter, her subject of choice was dilapidated mills and barns taken over by nature.

She dedicated her life to serving her Lord and her neighbors, friends, and especially her family. As a member of Springdale Baptist Church, she devoted much of her time and talent in supporting her husband’s ministerial calling. Where she excelled, however, was as a wife and a mother, for neither her husband nor her children can imagine a better version of either. Her love knew no bounds. The support she had for her family could bear any weight. All of this, because she was a perpetual and innocent child of God. Even during her diagnosis and brief but courageous battle with cancer, she never asked “why me,” but instead looked for ways to glorify God. Taken too early, she will be remembered for unconditional giving and sacrifice.

Jinni was born August 10, 1956 in Akron, OH. She was predeceased by her mother, Carlene Gentry Segers; two sisters-in-law, Lisa Phillips and Bonnie Segers; and an aunt, Rose Gentry. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Rev. C. Rorke Warne, whom she married October 1, 1977 at Judson College in Elgin, IL; her father, Dwaine Segers of Homewood, AL; her children, Nikki (Jonathan) Stewart of Delaware, OH, Rayne Warne of Marysville, OH, and Logan (Brandy) Warne of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Sebastian, Guiness, and Coral Stewart, and Olivia Warne; her brother Don Segers of Homewood, AL; two sisters, Joyce (Sandy) Segers of Knoxville, TN, and Jane Miller of Gun Barrel City, TX; a brother-in-law, Bobby Warne of Columbus, OH; a sister-in-law, Tracey (Jim) Stepp of Pippa Passes, KY; her uncles and aunts, Benny (Bev) Segers, Larry Gentry, and Dorothy Segers; and many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Underwood Funeral Home. The Celebration of Her Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Springdale Baptist Church, 18881 Springdale Rd, Marysville. Rev. Howdie Burnett will officiate. The burial will follow after, for immediate family only, while all others may continue to the fellowship hall downstairs for the wake. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Moms2be, helping to lower the Ohio infant mortality rate, at https://wexnermedical.osu.edu/ways-to-give.
