Janice Lou Rockhold Oates, age 82, of Worthington, formerly of North Lewisburg, died Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville. A homemaker, she was a graduate of Byhalia High School. A farmer’s wife, she and her former husband raised their two daughters on their small farm outside of Byhalia. She enjoyed supporting local arts groups and attended many cultural functions in the area. A member of Marysville First United Methodist Church, she also enjoyed walking, feeding and watching birds and her many animals throughout the years. She will be most remembered for caring for others, her keen memory and uplifting laugh. She was born November 22, 1940 in Union County to the late Lester and Gladys Hopkins Rockhold. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Smith and Virginia Davis; her brother, George Rockhold; a step-sister, Norma Jean Haughn; and a half-brother, Larry Rockhold. She is survived by her daughters, Maria (John) Amy of New York and Eileen (Robert) Cook of West Mansfield; her granddaughter, Elizabeth, “Beth” (Ramone) James; a great-grandson, Martin Findlay James; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Underwood Funeral Home where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2022. Rev. April Phillips will officiate and burial will be at Byhalia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the The Alzheimers Association, Central Ohio Chapter.
