Janet A. “Jan” Nicol Fisher Shonebarger, age 77, of Marysville, died unexpectedly Friday, December 18, 2020 in the emergency room at Memorial Hospital. Jan was a longtime associate of the Marysville School System where she served at the school board office and as bus transportation coordinator. She was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed her faith. She was active with the church’s care committee and organized the funeral dinner program for many years. Jan also participated in the Sew So card club and many other church activities, including Lenten luncheons and garage sales. She was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1130, Marysville Eagles Lodge Aerie 3506 and VFW Post 3320. An avid bowler, she participated in bowling league. She also liked golfing and was a true “scarlet and grey” Ohio State fan. She and her fellow Buckeye fanatic, Jerry, traveled around the country for many years to OSU football bowl games. She loved her canine companions, especially Sassy and Sophie, among many others. Jan grew up on the family farm on Weaver Road and acquired her hard work ethic early in life. She and her late sister, Judy, joined in the farming duties, whether baling hay or milking chores. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church and graduated from Marysville High School in 1961. Jan was known as an excellent cook and baker. Folks ALWAYS loved anything she made in the kitchen. Jan will be lovingly remembered for her joyful volunteerism throughout the community and deep devotion to her family and friends. She was born November 26, 1943 in Union County to the late Gerhard and Frieda Kasper Nicol. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, David Fisher, who died while serving in Vietnam; and her sister, Judy Nicol Lowry. She is survived by her loving companion, Jerold “Jerry” Bell of Marysville; her nephew, Wayne Lowry of Columbus; her brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Lowry of Hilliard; a step-son, David Fisher of Minnesota; and many other friends and extended relatives. The family will receive friends 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Underwood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Barry Scott will officiate and burial will be held at Oakdale Cemetery. COVID precautions will be observed. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
