Harry K. McMannis, age 85, of Marysville, died peacefully early Friday, September 4, 2015. He was a retired cost accountant with O.M. Scott and Sons after 38 years. He began his career with the company in 1955 and was a member of the 20-Year Club. During his retirement, he and his wife, Virginia, operated their family business, McMannis Jewelry, which was located for 24 years on the Marysville town square. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marysville, where he was appointed to various committees and served as elder, trustee and deacon. He was a longtime member and former officer of Marysville Lions Club and also was a former Lions Club district secretary. He was former member of Marysville Jaycees. He was a volunteer for Memorial Hospital and accrued more than 4400 hours and assisted with the hospital’s mobile meals program and at the wellness center. He was a member of Palestine Lodge No. 158 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus and Aladdin Shine. He was an active member of the Union County Shrine Club and participated with the Tin Lizzies. He served on various Marysville city government committees throughout the years, including Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. He also was a past member of the Marysville Chamber of Commerce. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served in Korea and was a participant on Honor Flight to Washington, D. C. A 1949 graduate of Woodstock High School, he received a bachelor’s degree in business from Bliss College. A supporter for autism awareness, he enjoyed golfing, playing cards with his Wednesday card group and having breakfast every morning with close friends. Above all, he was a deeply loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be remembered for his commitment to his community, customers, neighbors, friends and family. He was born July 27, 1930 in Leaton, Michigan to the late Jesse and Florence Keidel McMannis. He is survived by his wife of 63, years Mary “Virginia” Gibson McMannis, whom he married December 29, 1951 at the North Lewisburg Methodist Church; two daughters, Karen (“JB”) Heflin and Lynda (Nick) Nietz, both of Marysville; six grandchildren, Bryant Heflin, Evelyn Heflin, Lauren (Chino) Smith, Aaron and Alec Nietz and Lisa (Jeff) Wargo; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Madison Heflin and Paisley Rae Smith; a sister, Marion (Ralph) Hunter of Urbana; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and good friends, including Ed and Susan Pleasant and Gary Higinbotham. The family will receive friends 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Underwood Funeral Home where Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of Marysville. Rev. John M. Groat will officiate. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery with military honors provided by the Union County Military Funeral honor guard. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Marysville.
