Harold Edward Shockey, age 82, of Marysville, died Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Carriage Court Nursing Center in Marysville. He retired from Columbia Gas in 1980 where he worked as a pipefitter for many years. He was a former fuel truck driver with Penn Oil Company and also worked at McMahon’s Meat Packing Company during his younger years. He enjoying trap shooting and fishing and liked stock car racing. He raced at Columbus Speedway, DeGraff, Lima and in Richwood. When he wasn’t racing, one could find him on the pit crew. A bluegrass and old country music fan, he was groundskeeper for the bluegrass festival in Raymond for many years. He was proud of serving as a neighborhood watchman for the local Sheriff’s office. He was especially known as a hard-working, honest man who was neighborly and considerate. He was born August 21, 1935 in Ross County, Ohio to the late Orley and Ola May Shockey. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Stump Shockey; his daughter, Nancy Ann Shockey Burchett; and his brother, Charles William Shockey. He is survived by his daughter, Terri Bowen of Marysville; his son, Tom (Angela) Shockey of Milford Center; three grandchildren, Jason Parkison, Tabitha Wilson and Zak (Michelle) Burchett; five great-grandchildren, Zayne Parkison, Patrick, Lilly Ann and Benjamin Wilson and Annabelle Burchett; his sister, Norman Jean Breece of Delaware; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Calling hours will be 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2018 at Underwood Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Broadway Cemetery beside his wife, Betty.
