Gladys M Sawyer

January 22, 1922 - June 24, 2013

Gladys Mary Smith Sawyer, age 91, of Marysville, died Monday, June 24, 2013 at The Gables at Green Pastures. A homemaker, she was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. An accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting and will be remembered for her distinct quilt making. She enjoyed arts and crafts at the Windsor and Community Senior Center, where she was a member. She especially liked her travels with family throughout the United States and Canada and also journeyed to England with her sister where she met extended relatives. She and her husband enjoyed 25 years of their retirement as residents of Sebring, Florida before moving back to Ohio in 2007. She was born January 22, 1922 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada to the late Thomas and Edith Adams Smith; and was also predeceased by her husband, Mervin G. Sawyer in 2010; and her son Raymond Frank Sawyer in 2003; and by her siblings, Eva Taylor, Jack, Fred, Dennis, Bill and Bert Smith. She is survived by two sons, Garry (Lois) Sawyer of Bellville and Bob (Sandy) Sawyer of Marysville; eight grandchildren, Diane (Alan) Turnbull, Todd (Kathy) Sawyer, Craig (Dr. Jenny) Sawyer, Raylene Turley, Nicole (Gary) Matheny, Richele (Bruce) Garand, David Sawyer and Chad (Lou) Sawyer; 16 great grandchildren; her brother, Stan (Stella) Smith; two sisters-in-law, Doreen Dilley and Bernice (Bill) Hammerslagh; a brother-in-law, Arthur (Sandy) Sawyer; and many nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Underwood Funeral Home, Marysville, where the family will receive friends one hour prior. Pastor Darrell Clemons will officiate. Interment of ashes will take place the same afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at South Bloomfield Cemetery near Sparta. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Ohio Alzheimer’s Association or American Heart Association of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
