Gertrude Scheiderer Nicol

Gertrude Margaret Nora Scheiderer Nicol, age 100, a lifetime resident of Union County, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Memorial Hospital surrounded by loving family and friends. A homemaker, she was a lifetime member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was baptized on October 29, 1922 and confirmed her faith on April 5, 1936. She was a member of St. John’s Ladies Aid and served as assistant cook for St. John’s School for many years. She briefly worked for the O.M. Scott and Sons Company during her younger years. A 1941 graduate of Chuckery Darby Rural High School, she was known as a fantastic cook and baker and was famous for her homemade cookies and noodles. A devout Christian, she was always willing and ready to give a helping hand to those in need. She will be especially remembered as a dedicated wife and mother and cherished fun get-togethers and holidays with family and friends. She was born October 18, 1922 in Unionville Center to the late Carl and Rosa Burns Scheiderer. Gertrude was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Ludlow H. C. Nicol, whom she married September 9, 1956 at St. John’s Church; her siblings (and spouses), Frieda (Herman) Nicol, Norma (Martin) Burns, Helen (Harry) Evans, Lorna Scheiderer, Harry (Frances) Scheiderer, Roy (Burdetta) Scheiderer and Edgar (Marjorie) Scheiderer; her brother-in-law, Truman Nicol and an infant sister-in-law, Olga Nicol; and other close relatives and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Nicol of Marysville; her son, Philip Nicol of Texas; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Burns Nicol; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family will greet friends 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2022 at Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 :30 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. (Note: for those who wish to participate, a funeral procession will form at 1:15 p.m. at the funeral home and proceed to the church prior to the service.) Rev. Jacob D. Heino will officiate and burial will be beside her husband at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Stained Glass Window Fund.
