Gerritje “Gerrie” Versluis van Dam, age 76, of Marysville, died peacefully Sunday, June 9, 2019 at The Bluebird Retirement Community in Marysville. Lovingly known as “Gerrie,” she was a selfless and devoted volunteer for others with challenges and was a longtime associate at U-Co Industries in Marysville. Early in her helping career, she also served as an assistant at Harold Lewis School. Gerrie began her volunteerism during the 1960’s at the veterans hospital in Perryville, Maryland. As a native of The Netherlands, she had an innate passion for flowers and gardening. She was a member of Springdale Garden Club, Mother’s Study OCCL and Woman’s Parliament. For many years, she participated in the local women’s tennis league. Above all, she enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, Wils, and cherished special times with her sons and grandchildren. She was born March 20, 1943 in The Netherlands to the late Arie and Maria van de Werken Versluis. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Willemyndert “Wils” van Dam, whom she married July 28, 1966 in Soest, The Netherlands; two sons, Alaric (Jacquelyn) van Dam of Irmo, South Carolina and Marvin van Dam of Marysville; two grandchildren, Arie and Adrianna; her sister, Dicky (Joop) van Lottum; a sister-in-law, Wilma de Pater; and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends to celebrate her life from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Underwood Funeral Home.
