Gary M. Jobe

In the year of our Lord 2022, on the 5th day of September, the kind and courageous Gary M. Jobe, left his earthly body and walked joyfully and triumphantly through the gates of Heaven into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was surrounded by his loving family at Memorial Hospital. A 1967 graduate of Marysville High School, he attended Columbus Business University. Gary was well known as the agent and owner of Shearer-Banks Insurance in Marysville for 45 years. As a youth in West Jefferson, he was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. With marriage in 1974, he became a lifelong member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 2000, Gary received the blessing of a kidney transplant. In gratitude for his gift of life given by Pastor Tom Hackett, he devoted his remaining years to the mission and ministry of St. John’s and touched scores of lives throughout the years. As an equipper in Christ Care Small Group Ministry, he led Bible studies and trainings and developed small group vision statements. He started Member Mission Outreach which incorporated Loving In Actions and In Truth. This outreach program continues to provide the construction of countless accessibility ramps to assist the elderly and disabled in Union County and beyond. He served many years as youth leader and impacted many lives through Group Work Camp. Gary also held many offices in the church congregation. He enjoyed golfing, backpacking, and numerous travels with family and friends. Aside from his faithful church work, he will be especially remembered for his positive and encouraging attitude and his uplifting sense of humor. Gary was born January 17, 1949 in Franklin County to the late Milton Sheridan and Kathryn Isabelle Collins Jobe. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jim Jobe and his father-and-mother-in-law, Shade and Florence Watkins. Remaining to honor and continue his legacy of love, strength and kindness is his wife of 52 years, Mary L. Watkins Jobe, whom he married May 23, 1970 at St. John’s Lutheran Church; his daughters, Amy (Joe) Balderson of Marysville and Jacque Jobe of Marysville; eight grandchildren Derek Golden, Daniel (Megan) Golden, Max Balderson, Samuel Balderson, Nathan Golden, Mason Golden, Zoe Balderson and Mya Balderson; his sisters, Patti (Gary) Wilhelm and Christi Cross; a sister-in-law, Deb (Randy) Williams; and so many other relatives and lifelong friends. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2022 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Jacob D. Heino will officiate and burial will be at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s memory to Loving In Actions and In Truth or Growing Roots in care of St. John’s Church.
