Fred E. Wagner, age 96, of Columbus, died Monday, September 23, 2019 at his home with his loving family by his side. He retired after 25 years as a highway engineer with the State of Ohio. A former tool and die maker for North American Aviation in Columbus, Fred graduated from Central High School in 1941. He attended The Ohio State University and was a veteran of World War II in the United States Army Air Forces. He was a participant on Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. and loved regularly going to the airport to greet other veterans coming back from their Honor Flight experience. He was a diehard fan of Ohio State football and enjoyed going to Scioto Downs. Above all, he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born August 26, 1923 in Columbus to the late Walter and Agnes Moore Wagner. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Eva McClellan Wagner and Clymena Tossey Wagner; his brother, Karl Wagner; his sister, Lucille Cassell; and an infant daughter, Sarah. He is survived by his sister, Virginia “Ginny” Childs of Apple Valley; two daughters, Brenda (Richard) Leezer of Powell and Nita Taylor of Columbus; his step-daughter, Becky Tossey of Reynoldsburg; his grandchildren, Fred (Heather) Leezer, Eva Leezer and Aimee (Ryan) Crecelius; his great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Caleb, Maxwell and Robert; and many other relatives and friends, including Rock Lantz and Julie Brightwell. The family will receive friends 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Underwood Funeral Home, Marysville where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2019. Graveside interment with military honors will follow at 1 p.m. at Union Cemetery, new section, on Olentangy River Road. Rev. Mike Lape will officiate. Food and fellowship will follow the cemetery prayers at the home of his daughter, Brenda. Memorial contributions may be made to Honor Flight Columbus.
