Ellen Marie Fenner Evans, age 83, of West Jefferson, formerly of Marysville, died Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Mt. Carmel Grove City with her children at her side. She retired in 1994 from Ashland Chemical Company where she served as a customer service representative in the foundry division. Following her retirement, she worked for the Scotts Miracle-Gro helpline and later, a receptionist at Union County Senior Services. A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church since 1972, she attended Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church in West Jefferson. Ellen was a Union County Master Gardener and liked sewing and reading. She embraced modern technology and enjoyed many hours playing games on her phone. She was born February 22, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Joseph and Helen Gassman Fenner. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James F. Evans; a brother Joseph A. Fenner; her brothers-in-law, Louis Pettenski and James Ward; and a daughter-in-law, Tamatha Evans. She is survived by her children, Victoria McClain of Marion, Christine (Danny) Griffin of Okemos, Michigan, Susie (Terry) Taylor of West Jefferson, James Evans of Jacksonville, Florida, Wendy Evans of Marysville and Amy (Marlo) Byrd of Marysville; her grandchildren, John (Frankie) Lehman, Joshua (Rachel) Ramey, Matthew (Rachel) Ramey, Evan Taylor, Philip Taylor, Derek Taylor, James Evans, Judy Evans, Marlo Byrd, Jr. and Aliah Paladino; her great-grandchildren, Caleb, McKayla and Penelope Ramey; two brothers, John (Barbara) Fenner of Enfield, Connecticut and James (Doris) Fenner of Wildwood, Florida; a sister, Rita Ward of Columbus; her sisters-in-law Margot Fenner of Groveport and Dorothy Pettenski of Marysville; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved pets. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Underwood Funeral Home where the Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. and the family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Dwayne McNew will officiate and interment will be beside her husband at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Union County Master Gardeners.
