Elizabeth Meeder Pettit

June 7, 2021

Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Robinson Meeder Pettit, age 92, of Marysville, died Monday, June 7, 2021 at Paramount Senior Living in Westerville.  An entrepreneur, community leader and civic mentor, Liz was instrumental in the drafting, approval and implementation of the Historic Uptown Revitalization Plan and the creation of the Uptown Marysville Renewal Team in 2005. She led the movement to restore the Town Run and complete the Reuben L. Partridge mural at the corner of North Main Street and East Fourth Street in Marysville. Liz, along with her high school sweetheart, Bob Meeder, reestablished various uptown properties including The Henderson House (first restored by the Cordell family), The Half Pint building and The Old Bag of Nails building. Liz also implemented Doc Henderson’s Restaurant and Doc’s Bakery. Her ultimate passion was to preserve Marysville as a historic community, while maintaining the small-town flair and sense of community pride.  Among their many philanthropic gestures, Liz and Bob donated their Steinway grand piano to the Union County Veterans Memorial Audtorium. Through her fervor for mentoring, she helped establish the “Be The Change” program in Marysville schools and served on the Union County Mental Health Board. A graduate of Grandview High School, she received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from The Ohio State University. She was born April 25, 1929 in Columbus.  She is survived by her children, David W. Pettit of Westerville, Betsy (Joe Lstiburek) Pettit of Westford, Massachusetts and Jennie Gates of Columbus; her grandchildren, Erica Cyr, Elizabeth “Liz” (Mitch) Hammond, Miranda Butler-Pettit, Jake Pettit and Luke Pettit; and a great-grandson, Henry Hammond. The family will receive friends 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Underwood Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Marysville Art League.
