Douglas Michael Hampton, age 74, of Springfield, died peacefully Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the home of his niece and nephew in Zanesfield. A corrections officer for the State of Ohio, he retired from the Ohio Reformatory for Women. A veteran of the United States Army, he served as a medic on the island of Oahu. A man with a great sense of humor, he enjoyed socializing, storytelling and hanging out with Jack Daniels. He was proud of his native American heritage and his ancestor’s Chewah Tribe. He was born February 7, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Earl and Noreen Robertson Hampton. He is survived by his children, Sean (Liz) Hampton of Maricopa, Arizona, Shanon (Renee) Hampton of Inverness, Florida and Marlo (Axel) Roth of San Francisco; his grandchildren, Brooke, Zane, Talyn, Rajko, Shaylyn, Kalani, Max, Hannah and Anais; his siblings, Kenneth Hampton, Chuck (Teresa) Hampton, Philip Hampton and Penelope (Allen) Hampton Shope; and many nieces and nephews, including Eric (Sherry) Shope, Michelle (Bill) Warner, Kenneth (Steph) Hampton, Stormy Hampton, Chris (Erica) Hampton, Zach (Staci) Hampton and Aletha (Martin) Felan; and many great nieces and nephews, including Bailey, Justin and Cody; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2021 at Underwood Funeral Home where the family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
