Dortha Janice Ferrell McComas, age 82, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Mukilteo, Washington. Known as “Jan” to family and friends, she and her husband, Frank, lived in Marysville for almost 40 years before moving to the Seattle area in 1999. He died in 1991. Early in 2002, she married her high school sweetheart, Roy D. “Shorty” McComas of Crooked Creek, West Virginia. She returned to Seattle approximately three years ago due to her poor health. In addition to raising three children and caring for her first husband, Frank, who was in poor health for many years, Jan worked as a welder with the Siemens Company for over 25 years. Jan was well-known for her ever-present smile and sense of humor. A collector, crafter and quilter, she was a fabulous cook, an avid gardener and an active church member. She was born November 24, 1930 in Branchland, West Virginia to the late James and Malissa Midkiff Hazelett. She was also predeceased by her first husband of 44 years, Frank Ferrell; several siblings; and her son-in-law, Samuel Corbin. She is survived by her children, Paul (Becky) Ferrell of Cleveland and Janice Ferrell Corbin and Tim Ferrell, both from the Seattle area; two granddaughters, Terra (Peter) Hager of West Liberty and Abby (Matt) Taylor of West Mansfield; four great-grandchildren, Elliott, Parker, Emily and Liam; her sister, Delores (Perry) Black of Denver, Colorado; her second husband, Roy McComas and his children, Allen (Mary Lou) McComas of Crooked Creek, West Virginia, Rose Harvey of Peach Creek, West Virginia and Vickie McComas of Belpre, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Underwood Funeral Home where the family will receive friends one hour prior. Pastor Warren Goble will officiate and a private burial will be held at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to University of Washington Medical Center in honor of Jan’s favorite physician, Dr. Kimberly Muczynski in care of UW Medicine Advancement, P.O.
