Dorothy Kleiber McCarty

Dorothy Caroline Clara Kleiber McCarty, age 83, of Marysville, died Thursday, January 13, 2022 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. She was a retired clerk with the Union County Recorder’s Office after 25 years. For sixteen years prior, she worked at the Ohio Orchard Company on Orchard Road. She was a life member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was baptized September 4, 1938 and confirmed her faith April 6, 1952. She attended St. John’s Parochial School and graduated from Union Local High School in 1956. As a member of St. John’s Ladies Aid, she helped with the flower committee, coordinated funeral dinners for ten years and helped with special church receptions. She especially enjoyed working on the spring banquet. Dorothy loved flower gardening, baking and cooking, having a party for “any reason” and attending her grandchildren’s activities – ballgames, plays and many other events. She liked following the Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball. She was born August 23, 1938 in Union County to the late Walter and Laura Rausch Kleiber. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elsie (Earl) Schlotterback and Bernette (Loren) Nicol and in-laws, Carl and Phyllis McCarty, Mary and William Burns, Sr., Richard Rausch, Betty Dodge, Arleta Bowersmith and Glen and Mary Ellen McCarty. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ray McCarty, Jr., whom she married at St. John’s Lutheran Church on January 3, 1959; three sons, Timothy (Susan) McCarty of Dublin, James (Allison) McCarty of Aiken, South Carolina and Steven McCarty of Marysville; her grandchildren, Benjamin, Christopher and Michael McCarty and Alicia (Christopher) Jones; her great-granddaughters, Annabelle, Lillian and Clara; her brother, Ralph (Grayce Ann) Kleiber; her sister-in-law, Doris Rausch; her brother-in-law, Edgar Bowersmith; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2022 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Jacob D. Heino will officiate and burial will be at the church cemetery with a luncheon to follow the cemetery prayers.
