Donovan E. “Don” Runion, 82, of Marysville, died Thursday, January 9, 2014 at The Gables at Green Pastures. He retired in December 1996 from the Columbus Dispatch as chief copy editor. His 21-year career with the newspaper began in July 1975. Prior to his career at the Dispatch, he was associated with newspapers in Lima, Cincinnati, Findlay and Vincennes, Indiana. He was known as a meticulous copy editor who took great pride and enjoyment in his career. He was a 1949 graduate of Orville High School and attended Kent State University. A model train enthusiast, he designed and built his own railroad layout in his home which he enjoyed for many years. He was born August 9, 1931 in Orrville, Ohio to the late Arthur J. and Margaret Thompson Runion and was also preceded in death in 2005 by a son, Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eileen Fowler Runion, whom he married August 26, 1956 in Normal, IL; children, Mark (Cathy) Runion of Fishers, IN, Karin (Mike) Lowman of Colorado Springs, CO, Jacques (Goek Wah) Runion of Danville, CA, Elizabeth Runion of Denver, CO, Leslie Runion of North Lewisburg, Andre Runion of Columbus, Charles Runion of Wooster, Yvonne Timlin of Chicago, IL, Frank (Michelle) Runion of Fishers, IN and Virginia Runion of Campbell, CA; 17 grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth (Howard) Wright of Washington Court House and Ruth (Willard) Walls of Indianapolis, IN. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date with burial at Oakdale Cemetery in Marysville. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
